Originally from Burton, Denny enlisted in the State Police in January 1990. After graduating from the 107th Trooper Recruit School he was assigned to Flat Rock Post #25 (now Metro South Post). Subsequent assignments have been at Detroit Post #29 (Freeway), Flat Rock Post #25, and Gladwin Post #40. While assigned to the Detroit Post, Denny served as a member of the Motorcycle Unit.

In 2004 Denny was promoted to sergeant and assigned to the Training Division where he served at the Precision Driving Unit. He is presently assigned to the Emergency Management Division - Homeland Security Section. Departmentally, Denny has received advanced training as a Motor Trooper, Advanced Traffic Crash Investigator, Precision Driving Instructor, Field Training Officer, Motorcycle Safety Instructor, Auto Theft Investigation Technician, Firearms Instructor, Motor Officer Instructor, Leadership Development, and Supervisor Development.

Denny's active involvement in the Troopers Association started in 1996 when he was elected as the Post Representative at the Gladwin Post. Denny was first elected to the Executive Board in 2002 as the 3rd District Representative, a seat he held for two years until his promotion to the rank of sergeant. In 2005, Denny returned to the Executive Board as the Region I Sergeant Representative. Denny serves on the Grievance Committee, Finance Committee, Retiree Committee, and the Elections Committee. He has also been nominated to serve as the Association's alternating chairman of the Transfer Review Board. Denny has received advanced training in police officer rights. He also serves the membership in the disipline process as an Association Advocate.

Professionally, Denny is a member of the National Rifle Association, Motorcycle Safety Foundation, BMW Association, Pheasants Forever, and the United States Bowling Association.

Prior to enlisting in the State Police, Denny served in the United States Army for 5 years. He was recalled to active duty in 1991 for Operation Desert Storm as a member of the Michigan National Guard. Denny is a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars. He holds an associates degree in criminal justice from Mott Community College as well as a bachelor's degree in criminal justice management from Madison University. Denny resides in Gladwin with his wife and two daughters.
