Originally from St. Ignace, Mark enlisted in the State Police in February 1988. After graduating from the 103rd Trooper Recruit School, he was assigned to Romeo Post #22 (now the Richmond Post). Subsequent assignments have been at Detroit Post #29 (Freeway) and Cheboygan Post #72 where he is currently assigned. Departmentally, Mark has received advanced training as a Field Training Officer and a Defensive Tactics Instructor. In 2003 Mark was named the recipient of the coveted Gertsacker Award in recognition as the Michigan State Police Trooper of the Year.

Mark's active involvement in the Troopers Association started in 1992 when he was elected as a Platoon Representative at the Detroit Post. Mark was elected to the Executive Board in 1999 as the 7th District Representative. Mark serves on the Elections Committee, Finance Committee, and has been nominated to serve as the Association's alternating chairman on the Transfer Review Board. Mark also represents the membership in the discipline process as an Association Advocate.

Mark is actively involved in the Michigan State Troopers Assistance Fund (MSTAF) where he serves as President of the Board of Directors. MSTAF annually awards twenty $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors throughout Michigan who are advancing their education at a university, college, or accredited trade school.

Professionally, Mark is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police where he serves as President of FOP Lodge #122 in Cheboygan. Mark is also a member and Past President of the Cheboygan Lion's Club.

Prior to enlisting in the State Police, Mark served as a police officer with the Mancelona and Rogers City police departments. He holds a bachelors degree in criminal justice from Lake Superior State University. He currently resides in Cheboygan.
