Originally from Spring Lake, Mitch enlisted in the State Police in June, 1993. After graduating from the 108th Trooper Recruit School, he was assigned to Houghton Lake Post #75 followed by an assignment to the 7th District Fugitive Team in Gaylord. In 2000 Mitch was promoted to the rank of detective sergeant and assigned to the Technical Services Unit, Gaylord Sub-Unit where he is currently assigned. Departmentally, Mitch has received advanced training as a Firearms Instructor. He is certified through the DEA as a Clandestine Lab Responder and Site Safety Officer. He also serves as the Regional Methamphetamine Coordinator for the 7th and 8th districts.
Mitch's active involvement in the Troopers Association started in 2007 when he was elected to the Executive Board as the Region 2 Detective Sergeant Representative. Mitch serves on the Finance Committee, Election Committee, and the Drug & Alcohol Testing Committee.
Professionally, Mitch is a member of the National Association of Technical Investigators, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 1825 - Gaylord Chapter, Delta Sigma Phi Engineered Leadership Fraternity, and plays hockey in the Gaylord Area Men's Hockey League. He is a licensed residential builder in the State of Michigan.
Mitch attended Michigan Technological University for 3 ½ years where he studied engineering. He holds an associate of arts and an associate of science degree from Muskegon Community College, a bachelor's degree in management and organizational development from Spring Arbor University, and is on track to complete his masters in business administration from Lawrence Technological University in August, 2007.
Prior to enlisting in the State Police, Mitch served for the Zeeland Police Department and the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office. Mitch currently resides in Gaylord with his wife Lisa, son Blake, and daughter Brooke.
